An annual celebration, Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide.
Open Education Week was launched in 2012 by Open Education Global as a collaborative, community-built open forum. Every year OE Week raises awareness and highlights innovative open education successes worldwide. OE Week provides practitioners, educators, and students with an opportunity to build a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world.
While we prepare a new experience and web site for Open Education Week 2024, feel free to explore the events and resources shared in 2023.
In this time span, the open education community in 79 countries has hosted 2,064 events and shared 843 Open Education assets in 38 languages. There have been 85,535 engaged participants from 192 countries. Track the changes over the years for Open Education Week in the internet archive.
We look forward to another dozen years that continue to celebrate open as an exciting solution for education, by focusing attention on events happening around the world and collaboratively engaging in adding even more open educational resources to public spaces.
This year, OE Week is taking place between March 4-8, although some events happen throughout March. We hope you join us! Stay tuned to this web site starting January 15, 2024 for the opening of event and asset submission forms.
Many organizations and individuals are already planning their activities, but there is plenty of time to start if this is the first time you will join Open Education Week
You might consider planing what kind of events your organization my offer during this week. These can be events just for your community or open ones for anyone to participate. The idea is to show the world a wide range of activities happening that promote the value of open education.
We also are opening a campaign to add a vast number of open education resources, be they new ones or existing ones, to various repositories around the world to make more resources even more accessible.
Put the dates on your schedule! Open Education Week takes place this year March 4-8, 2024. These are ideally the dates for planning your own activities. Plan to have a web address for information about each event, and organize and webinar links for participants to join (for online events).
The web site form for adding your events will open Jan 15, 2024 for you to contribute all the activities you are hosting this year.
The goal this year is to collectively contribute a large amount of new or existing open educational resources to the public commons.
We have a new exciting approach for sharing Open Educational Assets (aka OERs). We seek to add as many as we can to world wide OER repositories, so start thinking about perhaps new OERs you have developed, or existing ones to share more widely.
We have the official 2024 graphics and other materials you are welcome to use for publicizing your own open education week activities, all media openly licensed and available for reuse now. Get Your promo kit!
Contribute by helping us get the word out about Open Education Week in your professional networks and local media. Use the hashtag #OEWeek in all social media so we can find and amplify your messages.

There are two primary ways to contribute to Open Education Week, hosting events and adding open assets to the world's collection of OERs.
This is what makes Open Education Week a distributed program, we are harnessing as much collective activities and sharing during a one week span to help the world see the wealth of a global community.
